I'm really concerned about all these deepfakes that have started popping up from Gemni and Sora2. How can we deal with this in Canada? Should we?
What are your thoughts?
That’s a great question Tim, and honestly, you’re not alone in feeling the concern. Deepfakes from systems like Gemini and Sora2 are shaking a lot of people’s trust in what’s real right now. As it should be.
Here in Canada, we should be thinking about how to handle it. Not with fear, but with some clear steps forward. My biggest fear is that regulators will think they can regulate this technology in the way they have tried to regulate access to other forms of media.
Deepfakes can definitely cause harm, but they can also be used in creative and positive ways. In film, education, or accessibility. The challenge is making sure Canadians are protected without stifling innovation. It may be an unpopular opinion of mine but I've always thought LA movie/TV industry was over rated and over priced.
IMO it is the quality of the content that matters the most. If AI generated content can match or beat the quality that Hollywood produces and can help lower the cost of entertainment access then I'm all in. Most of us have been watching some AI generated content on Netflix for months and months without even knowing.
Another area that I think this is really interesting is Personalized Content. Content that was generated specifically for you. Think about content that may help a grieving parent or content to celebrate a major life goal from decades past. Imagine being able to construct yourself media based purely on some well prompted thoughts. This is coming in a big way.
At CanXP AI, our mission is to build AI that’s safe, sovereign, and transparent. That means giving people the tools to trust what they’re using and making sure Canadian knowledge stays protected.
